Apple Released OS X El Capitan, iOS 9 and WatchOS 2 in WWDC

Apple hold WWDC 2015 yesterday, and introduced new OS X El Capitan, iOS 9 and WatchOS. During the conference, Tim Cook and his team introduced the systems comprehensively, and let all the attendees have clear ideas about the latest OS which will be applied to Mac computers, iOS devices and Apple Watch.

The following post will introduce the new features of the latest OS. If you haven’t got the chance to see WWDC, then the post will provide you helpful information.

Part 1. El Capitan

The latest Mac OS X El Capitan, is named after the vertical rock formation in Yosemite National Park. As the heir of Mac OS X Yosemite, the latest El Capitan enhanced the performances in many aspects.

1. Multitask Handling feature

Two Apps in One Screen Despite the praiseworthy UI design and features borrowed from OS X Yosemite, El Capitan added new multitasking feature which enables users to handle two tasks in full screen. Apple allows users to run multiple apps, of course, but it never have the feature to fit two running apps in a full screen before. Thus the new feature is interesting and helpful. Messaging to your friends and searching for the destination at the same time will work like a champ.

2. Spotlight Gets Smarter

Spotlight Spotlight becomes smarter than it used to be in OS X Yosemite, Apple says. Now it delivers more information to the users, including, weather, sports, stocks, web video and transit information. Spotlight also allows users to search files in the usual way users call them. It also allows users to search for the files like email, presentation and other apps in their own words.

Users can also search with their own words in Finder and Mail as well.

3. Full-Screen View in Mail

Full-Screen Email Mail app in OS X El Capitan added a full-screen view mode. Users will be able to view the emails in full screen which allows users to handle the emails easily. Mail app also helps to manage the contacts and calendars up to date. Now you can also manage your inbox with one swipe.

4. Jot Down Everything in Notes

Notes Apps in OS X El Capitan Notes app in El Capitan is more powerful than ever. Now users cannot only add the flashing thoughts into the app, but also add a photo, video, URL or map location into a note. The checklist function is also a new feature in Notes app. Users are able to make a list with one click, and check off items after complete them. Attachment Browser enables users to view all the attachments easily.

5. Photo Editing Extensions Helps

Photos App in OS X El Capitan El Capitan allows users to use third-party photo editing software from Mac App Store to edit their photos right in Photos app. Now users can add location to a single image or to the entire Moment, and they can also name their favorite people in Faces.

6. Pin Sites with Safari

Pin Sites with Safari Now Safari allows users to pin their favorite sites and it will keep the sites active in background. The pinned sites will stay put at the upper left corner of Safari. Users can also mute sounds in Safari now. For example, when users open two pages at the same time, and the audio from two pages start playing simultaneously, then users can mute the sound in the Smart Search field.

7. Find Everything You Need from Start to End

Maps App on OS X El Capitan The Maps app also enhanced its function. Now users are able to find out everything they need if they are going to travel around cities with bus or train. The app provides built-in public transportation maps, directions and schedules.

8. Be More International

OS X El Capitan becomes more international than Yosemite. It added new system fonts for Chinese and Japanese characters, and enhanced keyboard input.

Part 2. iOS 9

1. Introducing News to Everybody

Besides the messaging, web browsing and other built-in apps in iOS, the latest iOS 9 introduces News to the world. The News app is just like the way people know about RSS. The app selects, or allows users to choose the topics they are most interested in, and get news from the top news sources so that users can read the news when they launch the app on the home screen.

2. Taking More Notes Efficiently

Notes app on iOS 9 is just the same as it on the OS X El Capitan. The app now allows users to add everything to notes easily, and enables users to add checklist and to-do list with one click.

3. Nearby in Maps App

Nearby feature is newly added to Maps app in iOS 9. With this new feature, people can find what is around them and decide where to go shopping, eat and more. Also like the Maps app on El Capitan, the Maps on iOS 9 shows lines and stations when users want to go out with public transportation.

4. Wallet and Apple Pay

Wallet and Apple Pay in iOS 9 Wallet app now fully supports users to add reward cards to the app, and it can be accessed with double tap of home button when the screen is locked. So the users can purchase with Apple Pay easier than before.

5. Slide Over on iPad

Slide Over in iOS 9 In iOS 9, users are able to slide over the screen to get another app when they are using one. The feature is helpful when people are making presentations, and need to respond to a text message without shutting the presentation app down. The new features helps a lot in in productivity.

6. Split View on iPad Air 2

Split View in iOS 9 Like view mode on El Capitan, iOS 9 for iPad Air 2 enables users to view two active apps in one screen.

7. Watching Video While Typing Email

Picture in Picture in iOS 9 iOS 9 brings a new feature that let people view picture in picture. When users are watching a Youtube video and need to send an email at the same time, they can press the home button, and then the video screen will scale down to a corner of iPad. Now users can send email as well as enjoy videos.

8. Siri Becomes Smarter

Siri in iOS 9 In iOS 9, Siri becomes smarter and helps users to do more. Now users can ask Siri to search through photos and videos, and people can also ask Siri to remind them of the email or notes. Siri also enhanced its performance in searching, and find more answers for users.

9. Changes in Search Screen

The search screen in iOS 9 is totally different from the way it looks before. When users turn to search screen on their devices, they will see contacts, news and so on besides the searching column.

10. Proactive Assistant

The proactive assistant in iOS 9 is powerful. Helping users to add suggested calendars, adding contacts to email and other essential but easy-to-be-forgotten things can be accomplished with the built-in assistant in iOS 9.

11. Other Features You Want to Know

Other Helpful Features iOS 9 is way smaller than iOS 8 in size. It only takes 1.3GB while iOS 8 takes more than 4.5GB. iOS 9 provides a Low Battery mode so that the users can get longer battery life. It also enhanced the security feature so that anyone else will find it difficult to get access to your personal information.

Part 3. WatchOS 2

1. New Faces

In WatchOS 2, people can choose a selection from dazzling time-lapse videos shot over 24 hours in iconic locations around the world. Also, people can select a photo or a photo album as their watch faces.

2. Time Travel on Watch

The new feature, Time Travel, is introduced in WatchOS 2. People can view what happened, what’s happening and what is going to happen right on the watch face. People can turn the Digital Crown to adjust time to see the weather for tomorrow, for example.

3. Nightstand Mode

Nightstand Mode When users finish wearing the watch and connect it to the charger, the watch will go into Nightstand mode automatically. Users can turn if off by touching the screen, the Digital Crown or the side button.

4. Apps on WatchOS 2

More apps will run natively on WatchOS 2, and they will load faster and perform better. The apps, such as Mails, Maps and so on added new features to help users manage their staff more easily, for example, people can reply to their email, add more friends, get transit information, etc.

These three new operating systems will be available in this fall, and the people with iOS 8 devices can update to iOS 9. Apple will send emails for the people who have signed up to test El Capitan, and the emails for downloading beta version from July 24th. The beta version of iOS 9 will also be available in July. The Watch OS 2 Beta was available yesterday after the conference, if you are a registered developer of Apple, you’ll get the latest watch os on your wrist.
